Cookie & Tracking Notice
This Cookie & Tracking Notice explains how Yoghurt Pot Limited, trading as Motina ("Motina", "we", "us" or "our"), uses cookies, browser local storage and similar storage or access technologies.
The term "cookies" is often used generally for technologies that store or access information on a person's device. Motina also uses browser local storage, which is technically different from a cookie but is subject to similar privacy considerations.
This notice should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Data Processing & Security Schedule.
1. Where this notice applies
This notice covers storage and access technologies used:
- when merchants access the Motina application;
- when Motina's storefront analytics operate on a participating merchant's Shopify store; and
- on motina.co.uk where applicable.
A Shopify merchant's storefront may also use cookies or similar technologies set by Shopify, the merchant or other applications. Those technologies are controlled by the relevant provider and are not Motina technologies merely because Motina is installed on the store.
2. Merchant application cookies
Motina uses cookies required to provide and secure authenticated merchant access to the application.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
motina_session |
Cookie | Maintains the merchant's authenticated Motina application session | Approximately 120 minutes |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Cookie | Helps protect authenticated requests against cross-site request forgery | Approximately 120 minutes / application session |
These cookies are necessary for the application to function securely.
They are not used for advertising or to track shoppers across unrelated websites.
3. Storefront analytics
Motina provides analytics functionality on participating Shopify storefronts.
Motina's storefront analytics currently use browser local storage rather than Motina cookies for pseudonymous visitor and session identifiers.
The current identifiers are:
| Name | Technology | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_claritee_aid |
Local storage | Recognises a browser pseudonymously across eligible visits | Until cleared, consent is withdrawn, or the identifier is reset |
_claritee_sid |
Local storage | Identifies the current browsing session | Rotates after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity |
_claritee_sla |
Local storage | Stores information used to determine session activity and expiry | Associated with the session lifecycle |
The identifier names above reflect Motina's current deployed implementation and may be renamed as the Service evolves.
These identifiers do not themselves contain a person's name or email address.
They allow Motina to perform functions such as:
- distinguishing visits and sessions;
- understanding product and page engagement;
- measuring add-to-cart and checkout activity;
- associating eligible storefront activity with resulting orders;
- generating analytics, findings and recommendations for the merchant.
Further information about the data processed through storefront analytics is available in our Data Processing & Security Schedule.
4. Shopify cart and order association
Motina may associate the relevant storefront session with Shopify cart or order information so that browsing activity can be connected to a resulting order.
Where this occurs, the associated information is stored as part of the merchant's Shopify cart or order information rather than as an additional Motina browser cookie.
5. Consent and privacy choices on Shopify stores
Motina uses Shopify's customer privacy functionality to determine whether storefront analytics processing is permitted.
Where analytics consent is required and has not been provided, Motina does not create or use its normal pseudonymous analytics identifiers.
Where a visitor withdraws the relevant consent, Motina is designed to stop using the relevant analytics identifiers in accordance with the storefront privacy configuration.
Where local law does not require prior consent for the relevant processing, analytics may operate in accordance with the merchant's Shopify privacy configuration and applicable law.
The merchant operating the storefront is responsible for configuring its Shopify privacy settings and presenting any consent choices or privacy information required for its store.
Visitors should use the privacy or cookie controls made available by the relevant Shopify merchant to change their storefront consent choices.
6. Anonymous aggregate information
Where Motina's ordinary analytics identifiers cannot be used because the relevant consent has not been provided, Motina may process anonymous aggregate event counts that do not identify or distinguish an individual visitor.
These aggregate counts are not used to create an individual visitor profile.
7. Shopify and other third-party technologies
Shopify itself uses cookies and other storage technologies to operate Shopify storefronts, carts, checkout and privacy controls.
A merchant may also install other applications, advertising platforms or analytics services that use their own cookies or tracking technologies.
Motina does not control those technologies.
For information about them, visitors should review the relevant merchant's privacy and cookie information and, where applicable, Shopify's own documentation.
8. motina.co.uk
Motina may use technologies necessary to operate and secure motina.co.uk.
Where we introduce optional website analytics or other non-essential tracking technologies, this notice will be updated to identify the relevant technology, purpose and applicable choice before or when that processing begins.
We do not describe a provider or tracking technology in this notice merely because Motina has an account with that provider; the notice is intended to reflect technologies actually used in the deployed Service.
9. Managing browser storage
Most browsers allow users to view, remove or restrict cookies and other stored website information.
Users may also clear browser local storage through their browser settings.
Removing Motina storefront identifiers may cause Motina to treat the browser as a new visitor if analytics processing is subsequently permitted again.
Browser controls operate separately from the consent choices offered by a Shopify merchant. Where a merchant provides privacy controls, visitors should use those controls where they wish to change their consent choices.
10. How long technologies remain on a device
The duration of each Motina technology is shown in the tables above.
Some browser storage, particularly local storage, does not have an automatic browser-enforced expiry in the same way as an expiring cookie. Motina therefore applies its own session and consent logic where appropriate.
Users can also remove stored information using browser controls.
11. Personal data
Information collected using cookies, local storage or similar technologies may constitute personal data where it relates to an identifiable or distinguishable individual.
Information about:
- the personal data Motina processes;
- our role as controller or processor;
- purposes of processing;
- retention;
- individual rights; and
- international processing
is available in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing & Security Schedule.
12. Changes to this notice
We may update this Cookie & Tracking Notice where:
- the technologies used by Motina change;
- identifier names change;
- purposes or durations change;
- our storefront analytics implementation changes;
- applicable legal or regulatory requirements change.
The current version and effective date will be published with this notice.
